Michele Welling, MD

Certified EBT Provider Since 2013

About Me

I am an Internal Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Addiction Medicine physician and have spent 30+ years working with high risk people with both mental and physical health disorders. I am an EBT Master Trainer and the Medical Director for EBT and active in helping the EBT Team to create this new paradigm in health care. I am married, have 4 children, and love to garden, cook, knit and crochet, read, and go to music festivals!

What Brought Me To EBT

I began EBT in 2011 as part of my ongoing search for how to deal with stress in my own life, and quickly realized through the provider training program how beneficial it also is in my work with others. It is the missing link in health care as it creates lasting changes and healthy lifestyles by turning off the stress response which leads to chronic mental and physical health disorders. The joy that I have found in my EBT work is what sustains me, and I am honored to be able to share that with others.

My Professional History

I have been an Internal Medicine physician for over 30 years and have chosen to work in rural communities and with underserved populations. I completed an Integrative Medicine Fellowship and have been practicing Addiction Medicine full-time for over 5 years. I am presently serving as Medical Director for EBT. I have worked as Medical Director for a prison facility and as a preceptor/mentor to both nurse practitioners and physician assistants. I serve on the local Board of Health. My current professional interests include raising community awareness of addiction treatment and the neurophysiology of the reward system of the brain, the importance of rewiring the limbic triangle of the brain to create health and prevent chronic disease, metabolic stress and its effect on our bodies as well as the importance of nutrition and lifestyle in preventing it, the neurobiology and treatment of chronic pain, and training new providers for EBT.
